Writing on the Wall at Liverpool’s 2026 Year of Reading launch

Writing on the Wall was proud to be part of the launch of Liverpool’s 2026 Year of Reading at Central Library, a packed afternoon full of writers, readers, families and community organisations coming together around a shared love of books and storytelling.

As part of the Liverpool Literary Cycle, it was important for us to show up and be part of something that puts reading back where it belongs: in communities, in conversation, and in people’s everyday lives. The Year of Reading is a real opportunity for Liverpool to open doors, build confidence and make space for new voices.

Huge congratulations to The Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Barbara Murray, for the work she’s put into organising and supporting the launch, and for backing reading as something that should be for everyone. Big thanks as well to our volunteer Lynne for her support on the day.

We had a great afternoon — talking with people, meeting new readers, selling plenty of books and sharing stories. This is what a reading city looks like, and we’re proud to be part of it.
