Writer’s Bloc returns to Toxteth Library on Friday 23 January, 11am–1pm, with a special session led by poet and educator Oliver James Lomax.
Launched in 2024 with acclaimed Liverpool screenwriter Tony Schumacher, creator of the award-winning BBC drama The Responder, and based at Toxteth Library, the programme offers a mix of sessions led by professional writers and dedicated Time to Write sessions, creating a supportive environment for writers to develop their work alongside others.
Oliver James Lomax is a poet, educator and trustee of the Working-Class Movement Library in Salford. He has published five collections of poetry, including The Dandelion Clock (2020) and Burial of the Cameo (2023), and has written poetry for film and television. In 2023, he released his debut album Working-Class Love Poem (Shadrack and Duxbury).
In May 2025, Oliver was a featured artist at WOWFEST’s From Spellow to Southport, where he performed his poem ‘Be’—a deeply moving tribute to his niece, Bebe, one of the three young girls tragically murdered in the Southport knife attack in July 2024. The poem can be read via the Poetry Society.
Oliver is a passionate advocate for cultural equality and believes strongly in the power of the arts to ensure everyone in society has a voice.
The session is free, but places are limited and booking is required.
