Writing on the Wall’s Response to the Extension of Liverpool City Council’s Culture & Arts Investment Programme
Writing on the Wall warmly welcomes the announcement from Liverpool City Council that the Culture & Arts Investment Programme (CAIP) will be extended for a further 12 months, securing support for the city’s cultural sector through to March 2027.
This support has been vital in sustaining and growing our work. It enables us to continue promoting and engaging people in culture and creativity, which we know from participant feedback makes a profound difference to people’s lives. From reducing isolation to building confidence, skills, and connections, the impact of this investment reaches far beyond individual events or projects.
At a time when communities face the challenges of division, the rise of racism, and the spread of populism, cultural engagement plays a crucial role in uniting people and creating spaces for dialogue, understanding, and shared experience. Through literature, storytelling, and creative expression, we see every day how culture can combat isolation, spread positivity, and bring communities together, offering an alternative to hate and division.
For over two decades, Writing on the Wall has championed creativity, diversity, and community storytelling. Continued investment ensures we can build on this legacy, reaching new audiences, supporting talent development, and empowering people to share their voices.
We echo Claire McColgan’s words: these programmes are more than events – they provide opportunities, create jobs, and tell the stories of our city. Liverpool City Council’s commitment to year-round cultural investment is unique and invaluable, and we are proud to be part of a sector that makes such a profound impact on the life of our city.
