Writing on the Wall (WoW) is Liverpool’s longest-running writing and literature festival, as well as one of the longest-running literary festivals in the UK. Founded on principles of social justice and equality, WoW champions diverse voices through award-winning projects, publications, and its flagship festival, WoWFEST and Black History Month.
In October, WoW continues our year-round dedication to celebrating diverse voices for our contribution to the city-wide Black History Month programme.
This Black History Month, WoW are inviting you to reflect, organise and speak out as we address local, national and global issues from populist ideology to justice for Palestine. We’re using our platform to remember and celebrate that creativity, solidarity and collective action continue to shine as powerful tools against, hate, division and fear.
WoWFEST: 25 Years of Radical Writing
Each May, WoWFEST brings world-class authors, activists, and artists together with local talent, creating unique opportunities for emerging voices to shine alongside international names.
WoWFEST25 was a celebration of our 25th anniversary and the culmination of two and a half decades of cutting-edge, inclusive, and community-driven programming. WoWFEST featured 30 events in venues across the LCR, live and online, bringing together an extraordinary line-up of local, national, and international writers, artists, journalists and commentators including Dr John Cooper Clarke, Irvine Welsh, Salena Godden, Frank Cottrell-Boyce, Kit De Waal, Armando Iannucci, Levi Tafari, The Singh Twins and more.
