Friday 16 August, 11am – 1pm, Toxteth Library
For the sixth session of the Writer’s Bloc, Writing on the Wall is delighted to welcome PJ Smith (Roy), a writer from Walton. PJ has only been writing for a few years, but his talent has not gone unnoticed.
PJ has a skill for creating compelling characters that captivate. His first publication under the moniker ‘Roy’, Algorithm Party, came out on Rough Trade Editions in 2020.
PJ has worked with writing on the wall in various capacities, from festival event performer to course tutor. We are pleased to welcome him to the Writer’s Bloc, where he will impart his valuable insights on character development.
PJ will take you through the various stages of character development, looking at the hopes and fears of your would-be characters and assisting you in creating one under his tuition and with the help of prompt worksheets.
You will do a writing exercise to elaborate on your characters and bring them to life, and there will be a chance to share your creations and get feedback and tips from PJ. As a group you will recap and review your characters, and as always there will be a Q&A session for you to get answers to your burning questions.

Find Out MoreTony Wailey's latest book, Lights Bearing West, is about memory, place and distance, messages sent, delivered, picked up, put down, kept or discarded. Going away, having adventures and coming home, whether these adventures are first hand or tenth hand, is part of everyone’s trilogy in Liverpool – even for those who have never left the river.
