Derek Hatton – Liverpool City of Radicals?

Derek HattonAt the behest of Cameron’s Con-Dem Government, when Liverpool City Council carried through cuts of £91m, the biggest in its history, and cuts provoked a national demonstration of 500,000 people, Derek Hatton ranted about the ‘good old days’ when Liverpool was prepared to stand up and be counted. Can you turn back the clock? Would we do it all again? Is Liverpool still a city of radicals? He asked and tackled all of these questions in a rare foray back into the political sphere and he was always sure to spark a debate!

Derek Hatton became the face of 1980s militancy as one of the ‘47’ councillors who took on Thatcher in 1984 and put himself on the line when surcharged and banned from office by the House of Lords.
